Abstract

Culicoides paraensis (Goeldi), a vector of the human viral disease Oropouche, is reported as a pest from five cities in the Itapocú River Valley, southern Brazil. Adults likely emerge from rotting banana plants and are common enough to cause skin problems and allergies.
